Ever since we saw this top from Jacquemus, our love of Polka Dots just can’t stop growing! Polka dots have been popular for such a long time and is still popular now, when does all this happened? By the name of it, many people might relate it to Polka Dance, which was very popular in 18th century. In fact, it is named after the dance because this pattern becomes popular in that same period of time. Originally the pattern was intended to cover moth holes in woman’s dresses, on the benefit of the pattern consist of spots perfectly even in shape, size, and space.

Polka dots are used often in the clothing of Flamenco performers, and are normally in bright colours. From late 19th century, it became common on clothing in the UK.  The first fashion brand to introduce polka dots on runway should be Balenciaga, then Carolina Herrera also creates a collection with polka dots in the 80’s.

Until now, polka dots are still many people’s favourite. Artists Yayoi Kusama uses polka dots as her main creation; in Tour de France, the special polka dots jersey is give to the winner of The King of the Mountains; also, many of the royal family members were spotted in polka dots outfits, same as celebrities.

Hope you enjoy our selection of other Polka Dots pieces!
